PeaceGold is a ground breaking initiative turning gold into a source of peace and community development in Ituri, Democratic Republic of Congo by supporting mines to legally export gold which in turn will help to eradicate child labour, improve livelihoods and rehabilitate former combatants. Without support it is extremely challenging for artisanal and small scale mines to access the legal market. Their mission is to see gold in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo become a tool for peace and prosperity for local communities. Working with Peace Direct and Centre Résolution Conflits, we designed the identity using the alchemy symbol for gold as part of the word mark and icon which could also be used for the hallmark for jewellers who use PeaceGold in their end products. Accompanied by a strong photographic style and a series of illustrated gold nuggets which are numbered to represent the stories of each of the miners involved in the initiative.
